We never write up a winner of a Maiden Hurdle but we think God of Fire deserves special mention.  On the flat he had won on four occasions and had five placed efforts, winning almost €50,000.  He was trained by Stuart Williams in Newmarket, who was sad to see him go to John Joe O’Neill, to start his career over jumps.  On Monday he contested the Maiden Hurdle at Newton Abbot and went clear from two hurdles out.  He had four lengths to spare over the 2nd with a further fifty lengths back to the 3rd.  We would like to congratulate his owner Ben Hughes and this horse should give him many good days on the racecourse
